| Job Title: Video Editorial Assistant |
| Description |
| Video Editorial Assistant needed for San Francisco-based Design/Market Research Firm
GREAT PAID OPPORTUNITY!!
We're a small market research company (we like to call it Consumer Insight) that works with product designers to help develop better products and experience for their brand. Our clients include Nike, Motorola, Jeep, and Microsoft, just to name a few. We use documentary-style videography to do ethnographic research, and we get to the heart of the story with every person or group that we interview. You might say our work is a blend of documentary and commercial. We don't really do 'focus groups,' we actually go out into the field and shoot! We own serious video equipment, and work in a professional studio in Potrero Hill.
We've been extremely busy this year, and we expect to gain momentum in the near future. We're ramped up for a very busy fall season, and we're in need of some assistance. What we're looking for is a video assistant to help us with some post-production duties. We are constantly shooting, and our back-log of miniDV tapes is starting to increase. Additionally, we will be transitioning to HD production soon, and adjusting our workflow accordingly.
The video assistant's primary responsibility will be to digitize tapes and prepare the media files for the editors to work with. This is a VERY IMPORTANT job, as media management is at the keystone of the video post-production workflow. While Log and Capture will constitute the bulk of your work with us, there definitely may be opportunities for more creative editorial work, depending on your experience as well as your performance while working with us. There may even be chances for on-location shooting, again, depending on your experience levels and familiarity with our equipment. |
| Job Requirements |
| 1) TIME commitment: This is a full-time position. While working evenings or weekends is rare, it happens from time to time, and being available for those occasional times would be much appreciated (and rewarded).
2)MUST be very fluent in FINAL CUT PRO. Since the bulk of your work will entail LOG and CAPTURE, you
must be very familiar with FCP, and can work independently without much supervision. Need to know
DIGITIZING troubleshooting, how to refresh A/V devices, etc.
3) MAC FLUENCY--we're a Mac-only office and so is our post-production workflow.
4) HIGHLY Organized: Media Management is paramount to a good editorial workflow! You must be excellent at this!
5) Solid understanding of post-production terminology and technology, specifically QUICKTIME and MPEG, but also
DV, miniDV, resolution, encoding, compression, frame rates, 24P, etc.
6) Strong ability to take directions. We have a casual work atmosphere, but make no mistake: we work hard and
often have deadlines, so you must be able to take directions and get it done.
7) Strong communication skills and social skills: This is a MUST! If we can't communicate ideas to you, we can't work
together. Often times our work is fairly conceptual, and you must be able to grasp these concepts when you're digitizing media to put
them in the right bins and folders.
8) MUST be dog-friendly (we've got a big German Shepherd/Mallamute named Wile E and a Tibetan Terrier named Tinky).
DESIRED SKILLS:
-Knowledge of Panasonic DVX100 cameras and 24P post-production workflow. Additional experience with HD equipment and post-production workflow is a big plus.
-Knowledge or familiarity with these programs: Photoshop, After Effects, MPEG Streamclip, DVD Studio Pro, Handbrake
-Knowledge of Compressor; how to manipulate settings to encode video for web, DVD, etc.
-FTP clients and basic web video publishing.
-Some knowledge of basic principles in audio recording/editing; i.e. setting levels, gain, etc.
We aren't offering school credit, so if you're a student, please don't apply unless you meet the TIME requirements listed above. Compensation
is $15/hour to start. We offer a fun, casual work environment where you'll be working with young, talented creative people and brand-name clients. Our office is in a very cool part of the city, street parking is free and very easy and we're near several Muni lines.
This is an ideal opportunity for a recent film/media school graduate or someone with 1-2 yrs experience who is looking to make contacts
in the bay area media/advertising sector and get some great experience and references. Also perfect for someone
interested in documentary videography, learning how to edit documentary stories. This is an entry-level job, so if you are a seasoned editor with years of experience, you should look elsewhere.
We're an equal opportunity employer, and encourage all qualified candidates to apply. Must be fluent in English, though.
If you feel you're a good fit for this job, we would love to hear from you! Please send an email to the address above and be sure to include:
-RESUME (no more than 2 pages!--MUST be in body of email, no attachments please!)
-COVER LETTER (150-200 words, also in body of email)
-DEMO REEL (a plus if you've got one, but by no means a requisite...send weblink, no hard copy)
If what you send does not meet the above descriptions, you will not even be considered. (see above part about taking directions).
Thanks so much, and we look forward to hearing from you!! |
